Carter does a good job of being physical and keeping his man away from the middle of the field. He has good stick skills, and is effective on the clear. He doesn't rely on his stick for takeaways, although he could start throwing more checks as he develops since he already knows how to keep his feet moving. He'll need to start generating more takeaways if he wants to be considered an elite defenseman.
