Ave Montaigne Video Breakdown
Coaches Comments:
  • My name is Kaitlyn Carter and I have had the privilege of coaching Ava Montaigne on the Port Washington High School lacrosse team for the past three years. Ava has played as our goalie since she was a freshman. Ava’s work ethic and positivity is contagious to teammates and coaches alike I have known, taught and coached Ava since she was in fifth grade. Even at the young age of eleven, Ava’s positive and kind nature stood out above the rest. Any task, challenge or activity given to her, Ava would take on with passion and perseverance. These traits have helped her be an unshakeable goalie and solid teammate. There has not been a single drill, game, practice or scrimmage where Ava doesn’t give it her all. Ava is one the most coachable athletes on my team. Whenever I give her a tip she responds by doing exactly what I told her the next time she has the opportunity. When Ava started playing in goal for our team her freshman year, she did so with such poise and confidence. Ava walked into this position comfortable with directing and talking to her teammates. She made it known she was the captain of the defensive ship and did everything she could to help her defenders succeed. Ava has a quick first step, a strong clear and never falls for the first fake. Ava is not intimidated by an opponent and has calm demeanor no matter what the score of the game. In her freshman year in net, Ava made a total of 76 saves, 13 against Cold Spring Harbor who were the reigning state champs. Unfortunately, Ava’s sophomore season was cut short due to Covid-19 but started out to be a promising one. Ava is aggressive and capable of coming up with ground balls and making important game time decisions. She is always willing to learn, work hard and improve in any way possible. Ava’s talent in net makes her a very reliable last line of defense. As far as a teammate goes, Ava is kind and supportive to every girl on our team. You can always hear her encouraging her teammates, and helping them in any way she can. Having Ava on the field is like having a coach on the field, she leads by example and her teammates feed off of her energy, and enthusiasm. I can honestly say that kids like Ava are what makes coaching such a pleasure, she would be an absolute asset on any and every team. We should all be so lucky to have an Ava Montaigne on all of our teams. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions. Sincerely, Kaitlyn Carter Port Washington Girls Varsity Lacrosse Coach .kcarter@portnet.org
